About Abhijit R Gundale
Abhijit Gundale, MD, is an ear, nose and throat specialist with advanced fellowship training in head and neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery. He is passionate about caring for patients with both benign and cancerous tumors of the head and neck, and brings a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach to every aspect of treatment.
Originally from India, Dr. Gundale earned his medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai and completed his residency in otolaryngology at Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College & Hospital. During his residency, he witnessed the profound impact of tobacco and alcohol-related cancers on patients and their families, which inspired him to dedicate his career to head and neck cancer care.
He went on to complete a two-year fellowship in head and neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery at Christian Medical College in Vellore, one of India’s most prestigious medical institutions. Seeking further training in advanced techniques, he completed additional fellowships in the United States, including a two-year fellowship in microvascular reconstruction and transoral robotic surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, followed by a one-year fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliate in Boston. These programs provided him with extensive experience in treating complex head and neck malignancies and performing intricate reconstructive procedures to help restore both function and appearance.
Dr. Gundale’s clinical expertise includes treatment of tumors of the oral cavity, throat, thyroid, salivary glands, and skin of the head and neck, as well as advanced reconstructive surgery using local, regional and microvascular flaps. He is also trained in robotic surgery for oropharyngeal tumors. In addition to his clinical work, he has published research on head and neck malignancies and serves as a reviewer for the Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Gundale enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, reading and traveling. He is excited to bring his expertise in head and neck surgery to the UF Health Jacksonville community and is committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive care for his patients.
