About Tariq Almerey
Dr. Tariq Almerey is an Assistant Professor of Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) Surgical Oncology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. He specializes in complex liver, pancreas, and biliary tract surgery with special focus and expertise in minimally invasive HPB Surgery.
Dr. Almerey completed his HPB surgery fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University and his general surgery residency at Mayo Clinic Florida, where he also undertook dedicated research in HPB and vascular surgery. He earned his medical degree from Damascus University and holds board certification in general surgery and the AHPBA certificate for HPB Surgery. In 2025, he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
An accomplished clinical investigator, Dr. Almerey has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact surgical and oncologic journals, including Annals of Surgery and Surgical Oncology. His research interests focus on pancreatic cancer outcomes, neoadjuvant strategies, surgical innovation, and tumor biology. He has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences, including AHPBA, DDW, and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.
Dr. Almerey is a reviewer for the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and an active member of professional societies including the AHPBA, IHPBA, SSAT, and SAGES. He has also contributed to several book chapters on liver surgery, transplant oncology, and vascular emergencies.
Dr. Almerey was recognized as Fellow of the Year at OHSU in 2025 and received multiple honors for leadership and excellence throughout his training including gold humanism honor society.
Bilingual in Arabic and English, Dr. Almerey brings a global perspective to surgical care and education. Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing soccer, tennis and spending time with his wife.
